After the closure of Pelisplus, many clones emerged, the present domain being pelispedia.in, which directs users to a different portal and is concealed in precisely the identical debate that it simply inserts videos hosted on external servers. Uruguayan justice determined that additional individuals are behind those copies.

What happened to the owners of Pelisplus?

According to the Uruguayan press, the prosecutor for Narcotic Drugs and Related Crimes, Mónica Ferrero, billed the Uruguayan couple with”a constant crime of earning a digital broadcast available for profit without the written consent of their respective holders or successors in title, and a crime money laundering in the kind of self-washing in actual repetition”.

The prosecutor’s report identified both individuals by the initials JAGR and MJHG and noticed that both used various sites to provide illegal audiovisual content of different types, mainly movies and series on-trend or premiere.

Tired of being robbed of productions for which they spent millions of dollars, companies like Warner Bros, Universal City Studios, New Lines Productions, 20th Century Fox and Motion Picture Association filed a complaint from those pages on May 3, 2018, so the prosecutor Ferrero asked preventative strain for up to 90 days for the two, in addition to the immediate closure of the internet pages. Based on Virginia Cervieri, managing partner of Cervieri Monsuárez y Asociados, the research which defended the manufacturers that started the litigation, it was surprising to discover that Pelisplus domain was acquired legally.

How did the founders of Pelisplus make money?

For each click or display of an ad, the advertisement system pays the administrators of pirated sites (for example, pelispedia.tv) a certain amount that represents a component of the payment previously made to the ad network from the complainant to a specific advertising campaign,” explained the prosecution based on Urgent 24.

“This is the gain that these pirated websites obtain since access to movies and series is free to users, making it the primary fiscal and millionaire income of administrators via advertisements on those kinds of sites. Of those sites,” added Ferrero.

The authorities who raided the home where the couple was found verified that they obtained their earnings through Payoneer, a business that’s not controlled in Uruguay. In other words, the offenders didn’t pay taxes or anything like that. By Payoneer cards, the few moved”small amounts” to a debit card by an Uruguayan bank.

Cervieri announced that in Pelisplus there was advertising of”very good, lawful businesses which were unknowingly setting up in Pelisplus”.

It was suggested that Pelisplus was the sole source of income for this couple, for which they claimed to make the US $ 5,000 per month, although specialists estimated that the actual figure at the US $10,000.

Police arrived at the defendants’ house at 7:30 am on the day of the arrest, notified them of the charges against them, and went into the bedroom in which their’piracy offices’ operated.

In the area, all types of illegal material were captured, in addition to a 2008 Peugeot automobile, a 2014 Volkswagen Saveiro truck, a 125cc KTM motorcycle, US $ 1,257, two Payoneer company cards, two Prex cards plus among Alpha Brou.

The couple stayed in prison because the investigations progressed, while each of their webpages was dismantled, in addition to the servers they’d hired in France and the United States with sufficient capacity to provide many recently released free online collection and films.

According to the Uruguayan authorities, they obtained the servers and domains of Pelispedia.tv, Pelisplus.tv, and Pelis-pedia.Org with the detainees’ username and password and not only blocked the prohibited substance but removed it entirely.

Police are still investigating how Pelisplus obtained premiere series and movies, even before its launch.

THE CASE RED DIRECT

The Pelisplus case isn’t the first case of piracy facing Uruguayan justice. In 2017, Fox Networks Group (FNG) denounced the Red Direct website in Uruguay, considering that its justice was”leader” in issues of laws on the protection of intellectual property.

In April 2019, the prosecution ruled in favor of the business and ordered the blocking of all of the domains associated with Roja Directa as a preventative step, but to date, several of them are still operating.
