SEO: What is a Meta Description?



A meta description is an HTML attribute that can influence the click – by the rate when a summary is in the search results. 

It is used to display a general description of a particular page and is useful for popping up in a search result and giving searchers an idea of what the page content is about. 

Meta descriptions are an important part of SEO and are often used in the search engine optimization process (SEO), as they are used to represent the “general description” of any page. SEO – users spend a considerable amount of time formatting and creating the perfect meta description, although meta-de-descriptions have zero impact on search rankings. 

Therefore, adding an additional meta description to a page depends on the application you use to build your website. Whether or not meta descriptions appear in Google ads depends on whether the keyword or phrase you are optimizing the page for is found in the meta description.

When a visitor searches for a keyword that has both a meta title and a meta description, Google uses that description as the title of the search result. Meta descriptions can also be found on pages without an HTML source, such as a blog post or an article on a social media site. 

If the meta description is incorrect, Google may use its own meta descriptions taken from the content of the page, which could significantly reduce your click share.
