Should I get Satellite Internet?

Internet

Internet

Every connection has its pros and cons. When it comes to Satellite internet connection, it is the only connection that is available nationwide and providing internet services in even those areas where it is hard to find a grocery store. The satellite internet connection doesn’t work as a Cable or Fiber optic internet connection.

Satellite internet connection is considered as the wireless internet connection as you don’t need to install wires or cables to get internet services but the installation process of Satellite internet connection is more complicated, time-consuming, and expensive as the technician will have to install a dish at your place. That might require some construction and you need a clear view of the southern sky to make sure that you get the signals from the satellite in space. A signal would be delivered to the satellite in the space by your internet service provider. That signal would be then transferred to your satellite that is installed at your place and then to your modem which would be installed in your house.

Internet speed offered by Satellite internet connection

The speeds that you get with a Satellite internet connection might not be as good as you can get with other internet connections like Cable, Fiber-Optics, or DSL but you get enough speed to do pretty much everything but online gaming.

The companies who are providing internet services via the satellite internet connection are few but they have been in business for so long now and they have come a long over the years and they are constantly working on how to make it better and feasible for the customers who are getting services with them so they can offer their customers the best of the best.

Internet service providers like Hughesnet and Viasat are in competition and they are giving tough times to each other. Both are providing good internet services at a downloading speed of up to 100Mbps but all the packages come with a limited data cap which means if your data ends before the end of the month, you will be charged for the extra data that you will use. You will have to buy extra tokens to use internet services or you can still use internet services but at reduced speeds typically ranges from 1-3Mbps.

Hughesnet was using Gen4 technology in the past and was offering the downloading speed of 15Mbps to their customers but now they are using advanced Gen5 technology and are offering downloading speed of 25Mbps to their customers.

Companies providing internet services via the satellite internet connection promise their customers that they will provide their customers the speed that they have advertised and promised. With the speed offered by the satellite internet service providers, you can do pretty much everything on the internet like streaming, watching your favorite movies and TV shows on Netflix, but if you will be doing all this stuff on multiple devices, you will face issues with the data as you are getting limited data cap.

Satellite internet is not good for gaming at all and if you are a gamer, it is not recommended to use internet services via the satellite internet connection as for gaming, it requires low latency and less ping but as the satellite is about 22,000 miles away from our dish, it causes delay and issues like high latency and more ping.

Satellite internet connection Vs. other connections

If we compare satellite internet connection with other internet connections through which people are getting internet services, a satellite internet connection would be than a few internet connections like Fixed wireless or Dial-up internet connection but then there are some internet connections who are providing way more reliable services than the satellite connection.

Satellite Internet vs. DSL internet

If we compare satellite internet connection with the DSL internet connection, DSL internet can be faster than satellite internet. It all depends on where you live as with DSL, you can get the downloading speed ranges from 5Mbps to 100Mbps. If you are getting better speeds with the DSL, always go for the DSL as they offer either an unlimited data cap or a data cap of 1Tb which is kind of unlimited, but with the satellite internet connection, you will get very limited data.

Satellite internet Vs. Cable internet

If we compare satellite internet with cable internet, there is no comparison at all as the cable internet connection is a way better option than satellite internet connection as companies using cable internet connection offers not just reliability but the high-speed internet services with the downloading speed of up to 1000Mbs which is super-fast and with unlimited data.

Satellite internet Vs. Fiber optic internet

Fiber optic connection has no comparison with the satellite internet connection as the speed and reliability that is offered by the companies providing internet services via the fiber optic internet connection, you cannot get that with any internet connection.

Fiber optic internet is not widely available and there are only a few areas where fiber optic internet connection is available. There are companies like AT&T internet, which are offering services via the Fiber-optic internet connection in many areas in America. You can reach out to AT&T customer service and can check if they are offering services in your area.

Satellite internet Vs. Dial-up internet

Satellite internet connection offers more reliability and is way faster than the dial-up internet connection. With a dial-up internet connection, you get downloading speed of around 56Kbps. Satellite internet is around 10 times faster than the dial-up internet.

Summing it up

If you are living in an area where there is no other option than a satellite or dial-up internet connection, then always go for the satellite internet connection. If there is any other connection available in your areas like Cable or Fiber Optic internet connection, then always go for them.
