The Introduction to the Qualification of the Project Management Professionals 

The meaning of project management is that the manager of the project, under the constraints of the limited resources, uses systematic viewpoints, methods and theories to manage all the work involved in the project effectively.

Project Management Professionals (PMP)

PMP (Project Management Professional) is a certification exam initiated and established by Project Management Association in the United States. Its purpose is to provide unified industry standards for the project managers. PMP certification was the first certification to receive ISO 9001 international quality certification among all the worldwide certifications in 1999.

As a project management qualification examination, PMP certification exam has established its authority in the world. Now it is administered in nine languages including English, German, French, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese. Now more than 130 countries and regions have established certification examination institutions.

Founded in 1969, the Project Management Institute established the Project Management the Body of Knowledge in the early 1990s, and improved the cross-industry “Project Management Professional”. Project managers pass PMP exam to become the Certified Project Management Professionals, who are the PMP. It provides an objective measure of the qualified project managers.

The Project Management Institute (PMI), founded in 1969, is an international association with nearly 50,000 members. It is the largest global professional organization of researchers, scholars, consultants, and managers in the field of Project Management. PMI has always been committed to the research work in the field of project management, and its members are striving for the exploration of the scientific project management system.

Scope of the PMP Certification:

PMP, except for North America, developed countries in South America, Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, such as Japan and South Korea, all take PMP certification as an important standard to measure talents.

Eligibility for the Applicant

  1. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent university degree and have at least 3 years of project management experience with 4,500 hours of experience. The only experience within 6 years prior to the date of application is valid.

Documents to be submitted: A recent detailed working experience and educational background (please provide names and full addresses of all employers and schools), a copy of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent university diploma and a review form showing at least 3 years and 4,500 hours of experience.

  1. Applicants should hold a secondary school diploma or equivalent and have at least 5 years and 7,500 hours of project management experience. Only experience within 8 years prior to the date of application is valid.

Documents to be submitted: A recent detailed working experience and educational background (please provide names and full addresses of all employers and schools) and a review form showing at least 5 years of 7,500 hours of experience.

Qualifications Review

The qualification review of the project management experience is part of the documents of the PMP certification exam and allows applicants to report fully on their project management experience in writing. Applicants must complete and sign a Qualified Project Management Experience Review Form and submit it with the PMP Certification Exam Application Form. Applications with an incomplete experience review form will be returned. An experienced review form is required for each project within the available time.

Each copy must contain the following information: Full name of the applicant, the name and detailed address of the employer with project management experience, the telephone and fax number of the employer, dates of the Project commencement and completion, approximate number of hours spent in the five project management processes and the applicant’s signature and date.

Determination of the Minimum Passing Score

The passing line of PMP certification examination is based on the comprehensive judgment of proposition experts. A team of PMP assessors is asked to review each item of the exam. For each question, the assessors determine the probability that the candidate with the lowest level of knowledge will answer the question correctly. The average of these probabilities is multiplied by the total number of questions on the test, and the result is the minimum score. The final pass line is based on this combined judgment and the calculation of the mean standard error

Test Format and Content

The PMP certification exam is written with 200 multiple choice questions and lasts 4.5 hours.

The contents are project approval, project planning, project execution, project control, project closure and professional code of conduct.
